Romans 5

Paul declares that being justified by faith brings peace with God and access to His grace. He argues that as sin and death entered the world through Adam, much more does the free gift of righteousness and life abound through Jesus Christ to all who receive it.

vKing James VersionModern English
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.Through Him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; Not only that, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance,
And patience, experience; and experience, hope:and endurance produces character, and character produces hope.
And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.This hope does not disappoint us, because the love of God has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Ghost Who has been given to us.
For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. While we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.
For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.Rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though perhaps for a good man someone might dare to die.
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.But God shows His love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.Since we have now been justified by His blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through Him!
For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. If, while we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to Him through the death of His Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through His life!
And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement. Not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the atonement.
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man and death through sin, so death spread to all men, because all sinned.
(For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.Sin was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not counted against someone when there is no law.
Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who did not sin after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who was a figure of the One to come.
But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. But the free gift is not like the transgression. For if many died through one man's sin, how much more has the grace of God and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflowed to the many!
And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. The gift is not like the result of one man's sin. The judgment following one sin brought condemnation, but the free gift following many transgressions brought justification.
For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)If, because of one man's sin, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!
Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.Just as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men.
For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.Just as through the disobedience of one man the many were made sinners, so through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.
Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:The law came in so that the transgression would increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more,
That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
