Genesis 13

Abram returned from Egypt to Canaan, wealthy in livestock, silver, and gold, but strife arose between his herdsmen and Lot's because the land could not support them both. Abram let Lot choose first; Lot chose the well-watered plain of the Jordan and settled near Sodom. The LORD promised Abram all the land he could see and seed as numerous as the dust of the earth, and Abram settled by the oaks of Mamre in Hebron.

1	And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the south.	So Abram went up from Egypt, he and his wife and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the south.
2	And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.	Now Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold.
3	And he went on his journeys from the south even to Bethel, unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Hai;	He journeyed on by stages from the south as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai,

5	And Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents.	Lot, who went with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents.
6	And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together.	The land could not support them dwelling together, for their possessions were so great that they could not remain together.
7	And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram's cattle and the herdmen of Lot's cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land.	There was strife between the herdsmen of Abram's livestock and the herdsmen of Lot's livestock. At that time the Canaanites and the Perizzites were dwelling in the land.
8	And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren.	So Abram said to Lot, 'Please, let there be no strife between you and me, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen, for we are brothers.
9	Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.	Is not the whole land before you? Please separate yourself from me. If you take the left, then I will go to the right; or if you take the right, then I will go to the left.'
10	And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.	Lot lifted up his eyes and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan was well watered everywhere—before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah—like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as You go toward Zoar.
11	Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other.	So Lot chose for himself the whole plain of the Jordan, and Lot journeyed east. Thus they separated from each other.
12	Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom.	Abram lived in the land of Canaan, while Lot lived among the cities of the plain and pitched his tent near Sodom.
13	But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly.	Now the men of Sodom were wicked, great sinners against the LORD.
14	And the LORD said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward:	The LORD said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, 'Now lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward, southward, eastward, and westward.
15	For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.	For all the land which You see, I will give to You and to Your seed forever.
16	And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.	I will make Your seed as the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust of the earth, then your seed could also be counted.
17	Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee.	Arise, walk through the land in its length and its breadth, for I will give it to You.'
18	Then Abram removed his tent, and came and dwelt in the plain of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and built there an altar unto the LORD.	So Abram moved his tent and came and lived by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and there He built an altar to the LORD.
