Psalms 4
The psalmist calls on God for relief from distress and rebukes those who turn his glory into shame. He declares that the LORD has set apart the godly and lies down in peace, for God alone makes him dwell in safety.

Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer. | Answer me when I call to You, my righteous God. Give me relief from my distress; have mercy on me and hear my prayer.
O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? how long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing? Selah. | How long will You people turn my glory into shame? How long will You love delusions and seek false gods?
But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto him. | Know that the LORD has set apart His faithful servant for Himself; the LORD hears when I call to Him.
Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah. | Tremble and do not sin; when You are on Your beds, search Your hearts and be silent.
Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD. | Offer the sacrifices of the righteous and trust in the LORD.
There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us. | There are many who say, "Who will show us any good?" LORD, lift up the light of Your countenance on us.
Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased. | Fill my heart with joy when their grain and new wine abound.
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety. | In peace I will lie down and sleep, for You alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety.
