Psalms 138

David praises the LORD with his whole heart before the gods, giving thanks for His lovingkindness and truth, declaring that God has magnified His word above all His name. He trusts that though he walks in the midst of trouble, the LORD will stretch out His hand against his enemies and complete what He has begun.

vKing James VersionModern English
1I will praise thee with my whole heart: before the gods will I sing praise unto thee.I will praise You, LORD, with all my heart; before the gods I will sing Your praise.
2I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.I will worship toward Your holy temple, and praise Your name for Your lovingkindness and for Your truth, for You have magnified Your word above all Your name.
3In the day when I cried thou answeredst me, and strengthenedst me with strength in my soul. When I called, You answered me; You greatly emboldened me.
4All the kings of the earth shall praise thee, O LORD, when they hear the words of thy mouth.May all the kings of the earth praise You, LORD, when they hear what You have decreed.
5Yea, they shall sing in the ways of the LORD: for great is the glory of the LORD.May they sing of the ways of the LORD, for the glory of the LORD is great.
6Though the LORD be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off.Though the LORD is exalted, He looks kindly on the lowly; though lofty, He sees them from afar.
7Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me: thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and thy right hand shall save me.Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You preserve my life. You stretch out Your hand against the anger of my foes; with Your right hand You save me.
8The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O LORD, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands. The LORD will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy, O LORD, endures forever; do not forsake the works of Your own hands.
