Psalms 123

The psalmist lifts his eyes to God who is enthroned in heaven, comparing himself to a servant watching the hand of his master, waiting for mercy. He pleads for the LORD's compassion because his soul is full of the contempt and scorn of the proud.

vKing James VersionModern English
1Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens. To You I lift up my eyes, O You who dwell in the heavens.
2Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us.As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a female servant look to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, till He shows us His mercy.
3Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt.Have mercy on us, LORD, have mercy on us, for we have endured no end of contempt.
4Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud. We have endured no end of ridicule from the arrogant, of contempt from the proud.
