Psalms 123
The psalmist lifts his eyes to God who is enthroned in heaven, comparing himself to a servant watching the hand of his master, waiting for mercy. He pleads for the LORD's compassion because his soul is full of the contempt and scorn of the proud.

| 1 | Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens. | To You I lift up my eyes, O You who dwell in the heavens. |
| 2 | Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us. | As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a female servant look to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, till He shows us His mercy. |
| 3 | Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt. | Have mercy on us, LORD, have mercy on us, for we have endured no end of contempt. |
| 4 | Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud. | We have endured no end of ridicule from the arrogant, of contempt from the proud. |
