Psalms 1

The psalmist celebrates the man who delights in the law of the LORD. The righteous are like a tree planted by streams of water; the ungodly are like chaff driven away by the wind.

vKing James VersionModern English
1Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, or stand in the way of sinners, or sit in the seat of mockers.
2But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. But His delight is in the law of the LORD, and on His law He meditates day and night.
3And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither — whatever He does prospers.
4The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away.
5Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
6For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish. For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.
