Mark 3

Jesus heals a man with a withered hand on the Sabbath, provoking the Pharisees to plot against Him. He withdraws to the sea, appoints the twelve apostles, and warns that blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall never be forgiven.

1	And he entered again into the synagogue; and there was a man there which had a withered hand.	He entered the synagogue again. A man with a withered hand was there.
2	And they watched him, whether he would heal him on the sabbath day; that they might accuse him.	They watched Jesus closely to see whether He would heal the man on the Sabbath, looking for a reason to accuse Him.
3	And he saith unto the man which had the withered hand, Stand forth.	He said to the man with the withered hand, "Step forward."
4	And he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace.	Then He said to them, "Which is lawful on the Sabbath — to do good or to do evil? To save life or to kill?" They were silent.
5	And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.	He looked around at them with anger, deeply grieved at their hardness of heart. He said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He stretched it out, and his hand was completely restored.
6	And the Pharisees went forth, and straightway took counsel with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him.	The Pharisees went out at once and began plotting with the Herodians against Jesus, looking for a way to destroy Him.
7	But Jesus withdrew himself with his disciples to the sea: and a great multitude from Galilee followed him, and from Judaea,	Jesus withdrew with His disciples to the sea. A great crowd from Galilee followed Him.
8	And from Jerusalem, and from Idumaea, and from beyond Jordan; and they about Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, when they had heard what great things he did, came unto him.	People came from Judaea, Jerusalem, Idumaea, and from beyond the Jordan. Those from the region of Tyre and Sidon — a great crowd — came to Him when they heard what great things He was doing.
9	And he spake to his disciples, that a small ship should wait on him because of the multitude, lest they should throng him.	He told His disciples to have a small boat ready for Him because of the crowd, so they would not crush Him.
10	For he had healed many; insomuch that they pressed upon him for to touch him, as many as had plagues.	He had healed many, and those who had diseases were pressing around Him trying to touch Him.
11	And unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God.	Whenever unclean spirits saw Him, they fell down before Him and cried out, "You are the Son of God."
12	And he straitly charged them that they should not make him known.	He sternly warned them not to make Him known.
13	And he goeth up into a mountain, and calleth unto him whom he would: and they came unto him.	He went up on a mountain and called to Him those He wanted. They came to Him.
14	And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach,	He appointed twelve — that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach
15	And to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils:	and to have authority to heal sicknesses and cast out demons.
16	And Simon he surnamed Peter;	He appointed Simon, to whom he gave the name Peter;
17	And James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and he surnamed them Boanerges, which is, The sons of thunder:	James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James — He surnamed them Boanerges, which means "Sons of Thunder";
18	And Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Canaanite,	Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, and Simon the Canaanite;
19	And Judas Iscariot, which also betrayed him: and they went into an house.	and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him. They went into a house.
20	And the multitude cometh together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread.	The crowd gathered again so that Jesus and His disciples could not even eat.
21	And when his friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself.	When His own family heard about this, they went to take charge of Him, for they said, "He is out of His mind."
22	And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils.	The scribes who came down from Jerusalem said, "He has Beelzebub, and by the prince of demons he casts out demons."
23	And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan?	Jesus called them to Him and spoke to them in parables: "How can Satan cast out Satan?"
24	And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.	If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.
25	And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.	If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.
26	And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.	If Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand — his end has come.
27	No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house.	No one can enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods unless he first ties up the strong man. Then he can plunder his house.
28	Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:	Truly I tell you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they utter.
29	But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation:	But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Ghost never has forgiveness. He is in danger of eternal damnation.
30	Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.	He said this because they had said, "He has an unclean spirit."
31	There came then his brethren and his mother, and, standing without, sent unto him, calling him.	Then His brothers and His mother came. Standing outside, they sent word to Him, calling for Him.
32	And the multitude sat about him, and they said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee.	A crowd was sitting around Him. They told Him, "Your mother and Your brothers are outside looking for You."
33	And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren?	He answered them, "Who is My mother and My brothers?"
34	And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!	He looked at those sitting in a circle around Him and said, "Here are My mother and My brothers."
35	For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.	Whoever does the will of God is My brother, My sister, and My mother.
