Luke 22

Judas agrees to betray Jesus for money, and Jesus observes the Last Supper with His disciples, instituting the new covenant in His blood. He prays in agony on the Mount of Olives, is betrayed by Judas, arrested, denied three times by Peter, and beaten and mocked by the guards.

1Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover.The Feast of Unleavened Bread, called the Passover, was drawing near.
2And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people.The chief priests and scribes were looking for a way to kill Him, because they feared the people.
3Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.Then Satan entered into Judas, who was called Iscariot, one of the twelve.
4And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them.He went away and discussed with the chief priests and officers how He might betray Jesus to them.

10And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in.He said to them, "When you enter the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him into the house he enters."
11And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?"Say to the owner of the house, 'The Master asks you: Where is the guest room where I may eat the Passover with My disciples?'"
12And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready."He will show you a large upper room that is furnished. Prepare it there."
13And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.They went and found it just as He had told them, and they prepared the Passover.
14And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.When the hour came, He reclined at the table, and the twelve apostles were with Him.
15And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:He said to them, "I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer."
16For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God."For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God."
17And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:He took the cup and gave thanks and said, "Take this and share it among yourselves."
18For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come."For I tell you that from now on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes."
19And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.He took bread, gave thanks, broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is My body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of Me."
20Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.In the same way, He took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new testament in My blood, which is shed for you."
21But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table."But the hand of the one who betrays Me is with Me on the table."
22And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed!"The Son of Man goes as it has been determined, but woe to that man by whom he is betrayed!"
23And they began to enquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.They began to ask one another which of them it was who would do this.
24And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.A dispute also arose among them as to which of them was to be considered the greatest.
25And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors.He said to them, "The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who have authority over them are called benefactors."
26But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve."But it must not be that way among You. Instead, the greatest among You must be like the youngest, and the leader like the one who serves."
27For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth."For who is greater — the one who reclines at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines? But I am among you as the One who serves."
28Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations."You are those who have stood by Me through My trials."
29And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me;"I appoint to You a kingdom, just as My Father has appointed one to Me."
30That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel."You will eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and You will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel."
31And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:The Lord said, "Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat."
32But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren."But I have prayed for you that your faith will not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers."
33And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.He said to Him, "Lord, I am ready to go with You both to prison and to death."
34And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.He said, "I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow today before you deny three times that you know Me."
35And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing.He said to them, "When I sent you out without purse, bag, or sandals, did you lack anything?" They said, "Nothing."
36Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.He said to them, "But now, let the one who has a purse take it, and likewise a bag. And let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one."
37For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end."For I tell you that this Scripture must be fulfilled in Me: 'And He was numbered with the transgressors.' What is written about Me is reaching its fulfillment."
38And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.They said, "Lord, look, here are two swords." He said to them, "That is enough."
39And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him.He went out and made His way, as was His custom, to the Mount of Olives. His disciples followed Him.
40And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.When He arrived at the place, He said to them, "Pray that you do not enter into temptation."
41And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,He withdrew from them about a stone's throw away, knelt down, and prayed.
42Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.He said, "Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me. Yet not My will, but Yours, be done."
43And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.An angel from heaven appeared to Him, strengthening Him.
44And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.Being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
45And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow,When He rose from prayer and came to His disciples, He found them asleep, exhausted from grief.
46And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.He said to them, "Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray that you do not enter into temptation."
47And while he yet spake, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him.While He was still speaking, a crowd arrived. The one called Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He came close to Jesus to kiss Him.
48But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?But Jesus said to Him, "Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?"
49When they which were about him saw what would follow, they said unto him, Lord, shall we smite with the sword?When those around Him saw what was about to happen, they said, "Lord, shall we strike with the sword?"
50And one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.One of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear.
51And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.Jesus answered, "No more of this!" He touched the man's ear and healed him.
52Then Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders, which were come to him, Be ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and staves?Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple, and the elders who had come to seize Him, "Have You come out with swords and clubs as if You were coming against a robber?"
53When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness."Every day I was with You in the temple, and You did not lay a hand on Me. But this is Your hour — the time when darkness rules."
54Then took they him, and led him, and brought him into the high priest's house. And Peter followed afar off.They seized Him, led Him away, and brought Him into the high priest's house. Peter followed at a distance.
55And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were set down together, Peter sat down among them.When they had lit a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat among them.
56But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and said, This man was also with him.A servant girl saw him sitting by the fire. She stared at him and said, "This man was with him too."
57And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not.He denied it, saying, "Woman, I do not know Him."
58And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not.A little later someone else saw him and said, "You are one of them too." Peter said, "Man, I am not."
59And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him: for he is a Galilaean.About an hour later someone else insisted, "This man was certainly with him, for he is a Galilean."
60And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew.Peter said, "Man, I do not know what you are saying." Immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed.
61And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.The Lord turned and looked at Peter. Peter remembered the word of the Lord — how he had said to Him, "Before the rooster crows today, you will deny Me three times."
62And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.Peter went out and wept bitterly.
63And the men that held Jesus mocked him, and smote him.The men who were holding Jesus mocked Him and struck Him.
64And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee?They blindfolded Him, hit Him, and demanded, "Prophesy! Who struck You?"
65And many other things blasphemously spake they against him.They said many other blasphemous things against Him.
66And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together, and led him into their council, saying,When day came, the elders of the people — the chief priests and scribes — assembled together and led Him before their council.
67Art thou the Christ? tell us. And he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe:They said, "If You are the Christ, tell us." He said to them, "If I tell You, You will not believe."
68And if I also ask you, ye will not answer me, nor let me go."And if I ask You, You will not answer Me or let Me go."
69Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God."But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the power of God."
70Then said they all, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am.They all said, "Are You then the Son of God?" He said to them, "You say that I am."
71And they said, What need we any further witness? for we ourselves have heard of his own mouth.They said, "What further need do we have of testimony? We have heard it ourselves from His own mouth."
