Jeremiah 45
The LORD gave Jeremiah a personal word for Baruch the scribe, who had complained of his sorrow and weariness. The LORD told Baruch that He was about to tear down what He had built and uproot what He had planted over the whole land. He warned Baruch not to seek great things for himself, but promised that his life would be given to him as a prize wherever he went.

| 1 | The word that Jeremiah the prophet spake unto Baruch the son of Neriah, when he had written these words in a book at the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, saying, | This is the word that Jeremiah the prophet spoke to Baruch son of Neriah in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, after Baruch had written on a scroll the words Jeremiah dictated. He said: |
| 2 | Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, unto thee, O Baruch; | "This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says to You, Baruch: |
| 3 | Thou didst say, Woe is me now! for the LORD hath added grief to my sorrow; I fainted in my sighing, and I find no rest. | You said, 'Woe to me! The LORD has added sorrow to my pain. I am worn out with groaning and find no rest.' |
| 4 | Thus shalt thou say unto him, The LORD saith thus; Behold, that which I have built will I break down, and that which I have planted I will pluck up, even this whole land. | But the LORD says: 'I will overthrow what I have built and uproot what I have planted — this entire land. |
| 5 | And seekest thou great things for thyself? seek them not: for, behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, saith the LORD: but thy life will I give unto thee for a prey in all places whither thou goest. | Should You then seek great things for Yourself? Do not seek them. For I will bring disaster on all people,' says the LORD, 'but wherever You go I will let You escape with Your life.'" |
