Genesis 16

Sarai, still childless, gave her Egyptian maidservant Hagar to Abram as a wife; Hagar conceived and began to despise Sarai. Sarai dealt harshly with Hagar, who fled into the wilderness, where the angel of the LORD found her and told her to return, promising her son would father a multitude. Hagar bore Abram a son, and he named him Ishmael.

1Now Sarai Abram's wife bare him no children: and she had an handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar.Now Sarai, Abram's wife, had borne him no children. She had an Egyptian maidservant whose name was Hagar.
2And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the LORD hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.So Sarai said to Abram, ' now, the LORD has kept me from bearing children. Please go in to my maidservant; perhaps I can obtain children through her.' And Abram listened to the voice of Sarai.
3And Sarai Abram's wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife.So Sarai, Abram's wife, took Hagar the Egyptian, her maidservant, after Abram had lived ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife.
4And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.He went in to Hagar. She conceived. And when she saw that she had conceived, she looked with contempt on her mistress.
5And Sarai said unto Abram, My wrong be upon thee: I have given my maid into thy bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: the LORD judge between me and thee.Then Sarai said to Abram, 'May the wrong done to me be on you. I gave my maidservant into your embrace, and when she saw that she had conceived, she looked on me with contempt. May the LORD judge between You and me.'
6But Abram said unto Sarai, Behold, thy maid is in thy hand; do to her as it pleaseth thee. And when Sarai dealt hardly with her, she fled from her face.But Abram said to Sarai, ' your maidservant is in your hand; do to her as you please.' Then Sarai dealt harshly with her. She fled from her presence.
7And the angel of the LORD found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur.The angel of the LORD found her by a spring of water in the wilderness, the spring on the way to Shur.
8And he said, Hagar, Sarai's maid, whence camest thou? and whither wilt thou go? And she said, I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai.He said, 'Hagar, Sarai's maidservant, where have You come from, and where are You going?' She said, 'I am fleeing from the presence of my mistress Sarai.'
9And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands.The angel of the LORD said to her, 'Return to Your mistress and submit Yourself under her hand.'
10And the angel of the LORD said unto her, I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude.The angel of the LORD also said to her, 'I will greatly multiply Your seed so that they shall be too numerous to count.'
11And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy affliction.The angel of the LORD said to her, 'You are with child and shall bear a son. You shall call His name Ishmael, because the LORD has heard Your affliction.
12And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.He shall be a wild man; His hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him. He shall dwell in the presence of all His brothers.'
13And she called the name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me?So she called the name of the LORD Who spoke to her, 'You are the God Who sees me,' for she said, 'Have I really seen here Him who sees me?'
14Wherefore the well was called Beerlahairoi; behold, it is between Kadesh and Bered.Therefore the well was called Beer-lahai-roi; it is between Kadesh and Bered.
15And Hagar bare Abram a son: and Abram called his son's name, which Hagar bare, Ishmael.Hagar bore Abram a son, and Abram called the name of his son, whom Hagar bore, Ishmael.
16And Abram was fourscore and six years old, when Hagar bare Ishmael to Abram.Abram was 86 years old when Hagar bore Ishmael to Abram.
