Ezekiel 2

The LORD commissions Ezekiel to speak to a rebellious Israel, whether they listen or refuse. He is given a scroll written on both sides with words of lamentation, mourning, and grief.

1	And he said unto me, Son of man, stand upon thy feet, and I will speak unto thee.	He said to me, "Son of man, stand on Your feet, and I will speak with You."
2	And the spirit entered into me when he spake unto me, and set me upon my feet, that I heard him that spake unto me.	As He spoke to me, the Spirit entered me and set me on my feet. I heard Him speaking to me.
3	And he said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that hath rebelled against me: they and their fathers have transgressed against me, even unto this very day.	He said to me, "Son of man, I am sending You to the children of Israel — to a rebellious nation that has rebelled against Me. They and their fathers have transgressed against Me to this very day."
4	For they are impudent children and stiffhearted. I do send thee unto them; and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD.	"They are stubborn and hard-hearted children. I am sending You to them, and You shall say to them, 'This is what the Lord GOD says.'"
5	And they, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear, (for they are a rebellious house,) yet shall know that there hath been a prophet among them.	"Whether they listen or refuse — for they are a rebellious house — they will know that a prophet has been among them."
6	And thou, son of man, be not afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns be with thee, and thou dost dwell among scorpions: be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house.	"And You, Son of man, do not be afraid of them. Do not be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns surround You and You live among scorpions. Do not be afraid of their words or troubled by their looks, even though they are a rebellious house."
7	And thou shalt speak my words unto them, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear: for they are most rebellious.	"You shall speak My words to them, whether they listen or refuse — for they are most rebellious."
8	But thou, son of man, hear what I say unto thee; Be not thou rebellious like that rebellious house: open thy mouth, and eat that I give thee.	"But You, Son of man — listen to what I say to You. Do not be rebellious like that rebellious house. Open Your mouth and eat what I give You."
9	And when I looked, behold, an hand was sent unto me; and, lo, a roll of a book was therein:	I looked and saw a hand stretched out to me. In it was a scroll.
10	And he spread it before me; and it was written within and without: and there was written therein lamentations, and mourning, and woe.	He unrolled it before me. It was written on both sides — front and back — with words of lamentation, mourning, and grief.
