1 Corinthians 5

Paul rebukes the church for tolerating a man living in fornication with his father's wife and commands them to deliver him to Satan for the destruction of the flesh so that his spirit may be saved. He instructs them to purge out the old leaven, for Christ our passover is sacrificed for us, and not to keep company with any so-called brother living in open sin.

1	It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife.	It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among You — and of a kind that even unbelievers do not tolerate: a man is sleeping with his father's wife.
2	And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.	And You are proud! Should You not rather have mourned? The one who did this should be removed from your midst.
3	For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed,	Even though I am absent in body, I am present with You in spirit. And I have already passed judgment on the one who did this, just as if I were present.
4	In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,	When You are assembled in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and my spirit is present, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,

6	Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?	Your boasting is not good. Do You not know that a little yeast leavens the whole batch of dough?
7	Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:	Remove the old yeast so that You may be a fresh batch, as You truly are without yeast. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.

10	Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.	not at all meaning the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters, for then You would have to go out of the world.
11	But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.	But now I am writing to You not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is sexually immoral, greedy, an idolater, a slanderer, a drunkard, or a swindler — not even to eat with such a person.
12	For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?	What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are You not to judge those inside?
13	But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.	God will judge those outside. "Remove the wicked person from among you."
